Training Map: before a trainee joins
REMEMBER TO REVISIT THIS PAGE REGULARLY TO SEE IF YOU ARE ON TRACK AND WHAT NEEDS DOING.
PRACTICE MANAGER:
It's good to make contact with the trainee early: a) it makes them feel wanted b) it helps with communications which means there is less chances of things going wrong at the start from misunderstandings c) it gives the trainee to prepare him/herself with some basic information before they start d) it lightens the workload during the first month.
So, before a trainee joins the practice, you need to: 1. Send them an induction pack for your practice. 2. Speak to the practice manager of their previous post (if the trainee was in GP) to identify any concerns early 3. Ensure practice systems are in place - timetable - medical system log on codes - smart cards

IMPORTANT NOTE: When the trainer is unavailable (eg annual/sick/study leave), responsibility for the GP trainee’s needs should be delegated to a named partner.
