We are a small practice : 4300 patients and 3 partners, 2 of whom are trainers, as well as a salaried GP who does 3 sessions with us and the rest of the week with the North Bradford PCT Drug Dependence Service. See Dr. Les Goldman's entry for his special interests. Dr Becky Ship is our lead partner for undergraduate teaching and we have been a training practice since 1985.

Our practice area is socially mixed, covering some moderately affluent areas and some very deprived ones. Its population includes several minority ethnic groups including East Europeans and Italians who settled here in the 1940s and 1950s, and increasing numbers of Asians (mostly originally from Mirpur in pakistan), as well as their British-born children. We have always been committed to providing health care for 'marginalised' groups, so our patients include an above-average proportion of people who are, or have been, homeless, people with drug and alcohol problems, and people with chronic mental health problems. We are responsible for a Local Authority Reception Centre for recently-arrived asylum seekers. There is a Young People's health project based at the practice.

Our building, a 1970's Health Centre we share with another practice and some community services, is overcrowded and unsatisfactory. However, our team is friendly, lively and supportive. Registrars can expect a warm welcome, enthusiastic one-to-one teaching and a good balance between clinical experience and education.
