OUT OF HOURS (OOH)

Don't forget to send an out of hours handover form:

for those patients whose deaths are imminent and expected

  • This provides specific information that will aid the decision to visit and/or how to manage OOH

  • It also satisfies the OOH GP that a death is expected and thus permit the safe removal to the undertakers and not the public mortuary. It also avoids unnecessary police involvement and thus family distress.
  • In addition it ensures the patient wishes (eg advanced directives) are shared appropriately.

  • Finally, it supports GPs working OOHs by providing details of other professionals involved.
