●focus is on emotional distress rather than mentally ill clients ●usually 6-10 weeks of therapy ●recent emotional crisis eg bereavement, relationship break-up, work stress, family crisis, trauma (rape, assault, redundancy, loss) recent one-off opportunistic self harm attempt connected with any of the above panic attacks/anxiety of recent onset depression of recent onset (and some long standing ones too) recent onset OCD coming to terms will illness/disability alcohol problem which is part of an emotional problem clients with any of the above AND stabilised mental health problems |
