Redirecting pages
- The best WordPress plugin is REDIRECTION
- Once installed, it will monitor your website and if you make changes to the name of your webpage, it will do the re-direct for you. You can MANUALLY add old and new website URLs (i.e. web addresses) and will do the redirection for you.
- To use, after installing and activating…
- Click settings and tick
- Monitor permalink changes in WordPress posts and pages. If you change the permalink in a post or page, then Redirection can automatically create a redirect for you.
- Second one is optional but set storage to a week because it will otherwise eat storage space. Keep a log of all redirects and 404 errors. Storing logs for redirects and 404s will allow you to see what is happening on your site. This will increase your database storage requirements. To set storage to 1 week – go to plugins > redirection > settings > options tab
- Store IP information for redirects and 404 errors. Storing the IP address allows you to perform additional log actions. But I tick NO TO THIS re: GDPR. Note that you will need to adhere to local laws regarding the collection of data (for example GDPR).

- Have a list of old and new URL (word, or text file is fine) – simple list like : https://www.gp-training.net/appraisal-stuff https://www.gp-training.net/appraisal-pdp/
- Simply cut and paste into the empty box on the website
- Select the drop down “click 301” and then click SUBMIT.
- Cut and paste the redirects into your .htaccess file (Don’t know how to do this? youtube, “how to add redirects to your .htaccess file” – it’s easy)
